On October 14, 2001, Tjeerd van Albada has reached the age of 65 years and has consequently retired on November 1 from his professorship at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute and the University of Groningen. Tjeerd has spent almost all of his career in Groningen.
Tjeerd has decided to give his formal farewell lecture at the University's Main Auditorium on Tuesday, March 19, 2002. The Kapteyn Astronomical Institute would like to honor Tjeerd on the occasion of his retirement with a one-day symposium. He has proposed the subject and the invited speakers himself. Rather than looking back he wishes to concentrate on the future. "What line of research would I follow if I were still young?"
The one-day symposium will be held on March 19, 2002. The program will consist of five invited presentations and will be concluded by Tjeerd's farewell lecture.
We hope that many friends, colleagues and collaborators (past and present) will be present. All Tjeerd's students will hopefully come, while we also expect the attendance of his own thesis supervisor, Professor Adriaan Blaauw.
More information and an on-line registration form can be found on the symposium's web-page at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute http://www.astro.rug.nl/~symp2002 .
